After a Sudden Cardiac Arrest, survivors are often required to wear a ‘life vest’ upon their release from the hospital until the cause of their SCA can be determined. Sudden Cardiac Arrest Maurice Trosclair wore a Zoll Life Vest which connects to a wearable defibrillator for two months after his release. During that time of uncertainty, as a safety precaution, he was never left alone. He spent some time with his sister Renee’ Melito who is a master pottery artist. One day while spending time in her workshop, Renee’ placed some clay in front of Maurice and so began the learning of a new art. His first piece, of course, was a heart. In time he had carved three designs and began the process of making his “Grateful Plates.” Over the last year and a half, with the help of his sister Renee’, he has created over 100 pieces.
While the processes to create these plates are similar, each Grateful Plate is unique. They are inspired by and are a tribute to all citizen and EMS first-responders and advanced-care medical professionals who save lives every day.
